About Soil pH Guide

Soil pH affects nutrient availability. Most vegetables prefer 6.0–7.0 (slightly acidic to neutral). Blueberries need 4.5–5.5 (very acidic). Lavender prefers alkaline soil (7.0–8.0). To lower pH: add sulphur or acidic compost. To raise pH: add lime (calcium carbonate). Test your soil in spring before planting. pH changes slowly β€” adjust gradually over one or two seasons.
