Understanding the indices
- BMI (Body Mass Index) β weight / heightΒ². Simple but does not account for muscle mass.
- Ponderal Index (Corpulence Index) β weight / heightΒ³. More accurate for very tall or short individuals.
- WHR (Waist-to-Hip Ratio) β waist Γ· hip. Risk threshold: >0.90 (men), >0.85 (women).
- WHtR (Waist-to-Height Ratio) β waist Γ· height. Values above 0.5 indicate elevated cardiovascular risk.
- Navy body fat method β uses circumference measurements. Accuracy Β±3β4% vs DEXA.
