Knitting Needle Size Converter
Needle sizes vary by country. US sizes are numbers (0–50), metric sizes are diameters in millimeters, and the UK/Canadian system uses a descending scale where smaller numbers mean larger needles.
- Metric (mm) is the universal standard — if in doubt, use mm
- US and UK sizes do not correspond to the same needle diameter
- Crochet hook sizes use the same metric system
- Pattern tensions (gauge) are tied to the mm size, not the number
